Why Jesus was born Poor?
For there is born to you this day in the
city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe
wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.” Luk 2:11,12
On that day Jesus was born, people
thought that the coming Messiah would be a political leader who will rise in
power. Others think a man that will become great military leader mighty in
battle. Some thoughts there is one coming whose status in life belongs to the
rich and famous. Whatever was all in their mind, all expectations turn to be
different who he really was.
Jesus lives in poverty. In fact he lives in
total poverty, Jesus said, “Foxes have
holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere
to lay His head.” Why he let himself in that
deprived condition?
Here are the four reason:
- To avoid struggling
for political power
Look
at the politics today, the “crab mentality” is always in the minds of the
politicians who want themselves to be put first. What’s on the minds
of the follower of Jesus is exactly what in the minds of the politician yearns
for power. Read Mark 9:33; Matt 20:20-28
- To avoid fighting
and shedding of blood
From ancient days up to this
days fighting and war never ceases. On the time of Jesus, there is one follower
who is ready to fight and willing to give his life. His name is Peter who
thinks maybe someday Jesus will reign and rule like a king and a mighty
warrior. But Jesus fight is not like the
fight of this world. Read John 18:36; John 18:10,11
- To avoid proliferation
of graft and corruption
Nowhere in the kingdom of this
world is graft and corruption not present. May it be a corporation,
association, or group large or small and of course in the government there are
graft and corruption in some form or another. If Jesus was born rich,
proliferation of graft and corruption will be in large scale and enormous. Read
John 12:4-6; Acts 5:1-11; Acts 8:18-23
- To avoid making of
an idol
Famous person on movie and music
industry are regarded as idol. That was natural for a lot of people who have
much admiration on famous person. But not so with Jesus. John 6:15; Acts
14:8-18
In the Kingdom of God, if you want to be first you must be last. If
you want to be rich you must be poor. And in this world, our fight is not
against flesh and blood Eph 6:12.
