Surpassing – Outstanding, Superior, Exceptional, Exceeding, Greater
For I say to you, that unless your righteousness
exceeds the righteousness of
the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.
Matt 5:20
Righteousness of Scribes
and Pharisees are full of hypocrisy and self-righteousness as what can be described
in Matt 23:1-7.
- . They do not do what they preach
- . They don’t want any hardship
- . They do good works just to be seen by men
- . They love to be in places of V.I.P.
- . They love to be praise by men
How a real righteous person surpass the righteousness of Scribes and Pharisees:
- . They walk their talk Rom 2:17-24
- . They go extra mile
- . They do real good works Matt 5:21-48; 6:1-18
- . They don’t do self-promotion
- . They are not men pleaser
Today there
are modern Scribes and Pharisees like as what as in Jesus days. There’s no
doubt, they are among with us. We can know them by their fruits. Indeed not
everyone who say “Lord, Lord” will enter heaven. Matt 7:21-23
